What The Bahamian Project Is – And What it is Not

The Bahamian Project is an art photography project that has created a collection of portraits that acts as the underpinning of the first national portrait gallery of The Bahamas.

What The Bahamian Project Is

The Bahamian Project is an art photography project…

The Bahamian Project is an art photography project that has created an unprecedented body of work exposing and archiving a broad spectrum of Bahamian society. This collection of portraits is the underpinning of the first national portrait gallery of The Bahamas.

The Bahamian Project documents history & culture…

The Bahamas is losing its history and cultural heritage faster than it can be documented. The Bahamian Project is photographing the people who have helped shape the heart and soul of the nation, in an effort to create a visual archive of our history & culture for future generations.

What The Bahamian Project Is Not

The Bahamian Project is not an award…

While awards are usually something tangible or monetary, being selected for the Bahamian Project is intangible, yet priceless in value. Awards can be passed to different people over time, they are impersonal and temporary in nature. The Bahamian Project celebrates people for who they are and what they do… and it is quite permanent.

The Bahamian Project is not a contest…

The Bahamian Project is not a contest. Persons selected for the Bahamian Project need not be famous or “successful” by today’s commercial standards. It is not a popularity contest. It is not about what someone has accomplished, as how they have lived their life. We are documenting both the bright lights AND the raw gems of Bahamian society.
